Abstract
Lactobacillus acidophilus is a probiotic bacterium that offers a variety of health-promoting activities. The growth conditions, antioxidant activity, and chemical composition of the methanolic crude extract of Lactobacillus acidophilus EMCCN 1227 were evaluated. The highest antioxidant production and the best activity were shown at temperatures, different incubation periods, and different pH values at 35°C for 20 hours and pH=5.5, respectively. The GC/MS analysis of the Lactobacillus acidophilus EMCCN 1227 methanolic extract has revealed different compounds with antioxidant activities included, n-Hexa-decanoic acid (4.281%), dodecane, 2,6,11-trimethyl- (1.362%), nonadecane (0.898%), eicosane (0.596%), tetra-decanoic acid (0.926%), eicosane, 2-methyl- (1.362%), and nonadecane (0.643%). However, the predominant components identified included benzene, (1-bromoethyl) (25.330%), benzene, 1,1'-(1,2-dimethyl-1,2-ethanediyl) bis (6.117%), and benzene, 1,1'-(1,2-ethanediyl) bis (5.460%). Additionally, this postbiotic may have other useful activities, including antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anticancer. Therefore, further studies should be conducted to evaluate their cytotoxicity to normal cells.
